Africa Climate week to focus on energy, infrastructure and food security

An international climate change conference, the 2020 Africa Climate Week (ACW) due here in March will focus on energy access, urban infrastructure, and water and food security.

Conor Barry, the strategy development officer at the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, based in Bonn, Germany said during a press conference at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala that these three thematic areas are important issues on which mitigation and adaptation awareness need to be raised.

Beatrice Anywar, the state minister for Environment said the conference will bring together governments and non- government organizations that will facilities the understanding of climate change policies and negotiations.

Experts say climate change has increased droughts and erratic rainfall causing crop failures on the African continent.

Away from the continent, scientists have also blamed climate change for the raging bushfires in Australia that has caused havoc on the ecosystem.

The ACW will run from the 9-13 March this year and is one of these regional climate week organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

Others will meet in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic for Latin American and Caribbean countries and Dubai for North Africa and Middle East countries.
